At Home in Baltimore

Last summer my father Merle passed away. He loved his life. He especially loved being outdoors and tending to the tomato plants and cucumbers and spending time with the birds and squirrels that came to visit each day. The red bird families still stop by daily to see my mom and get some delicious peanuts. One pair of the Mr. and Mrs. Red’s, recently had a little one and my mother calls her baby Red. She is learning to eat on her own. I happen to be home visiting and when I opened the back door this morning Mr. Red was on the railing, waiting for a nut. A baby squirrel I had befriended last month also jumped on the porch and ate peanuts by my feet. She is the only one that will sit close to me. My husband painted the “Merle’s Garden” sign.
